On The Go Makeup

On The Go Makeup

Sometimes, it’s not always necessary to put on makeup, while other times a full face is important. And other times, time doesn’t allow for a whole production, so on the go makeup is one of my favorite things to do, even when I have time! I have perfected a 5-10 minute on the go makeup routine, and I wanted to share that with you in hopes it helps you realize you don’t always need to take forever to be put together.

On The Go Makeup

In all honesty, for on the go makeup, I use about 3 products from my makeup bag. They are the best products for giving coverage, quickly applying, super easy, and make my skin tone look even. I struggle with dark under eyes, and hard cheekbone that leave me looking less feminine when I don’t wear makeup.

As always, this blog post contains affiliate links, but all opinions are my own. If you click on those affiliate links, I get a small commission that lets me continue doing this for you 🙂

Primer/Concealer

When I am on the go, I want very few products in my purse, but also ones that willOn The Go Makeup - Tula Primer get the job done. I recently found an overall primer/concealer that blurs my skin tone so anything that’s out of the ordinary will not show through. It’s the Tula Face Filter. It is a blurring and moisturizing primer that works double time when you don’t want to wear makeup, but want to use moisturizer. It also works under a heavier foundation as a moisturizer. Here is the link for the 2 oz size, but it also comes in a 1 oz size.

This product is great for any and all skin types and tones, and makes it look like you have an Instagram filter on your face effortlessly and with very little product.

Under Eye Brightener

Tula Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye BalmNext, because I want and need to brighten the dark circle under my eyes (thanks dad and dehydration 🙁 ) I do have a few different products depending on the day and occasion for the makeup, but the first one doesn’t require a sponge or any contouring. It provides the least amount of coverage, but works when I need to get out the door asap. The product is Tula Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm. I like this product because you just pop the cap off, twist up to show product, swipe under both eyes, and then rub/pat in with fingertip.

On The Go Makeup - sculpting concealer

Under Eye Concealer

The next product I prefer if I want a little more coverage, or if I’m shooting some photos or going to an event. It gives way more coverage and adds a brighter under eye. You need a sponge to blend this one in, and I HIGHLY recommend theSuper Sponge. Super Sponge is a silicone sponge that allows you to use less product and lets you swipe instead of bounce when blending. The under eye brightener/concealer I love for this is by Too Faced and it’s the Born This Way product. I use the Shortbread shade which is close to the Natural Beige, and here’s the travel size to give a try. This is a must have in your makeup kit for either on the go makeup as well as for a full longer makeup routine.

And one of the best eye brighteners on the market, that you’ve heard every blogger talk about is the Shape Tape by Tarte. Not going to lie, I do love this option because I like to blend their colors together to make a custom blend. Sometimes I also layer this one over the Too Faced concealer or on other spots on my face when I have a blemish. I use Tan Sand and Light-Medium shades depending on the time of year, and how much I see the sun. Tarte often has a sale and the Shape Tape is always included, so that’s another reason the blogging and beauty community love it so.

Eye Shadow Palette, Brushes, and Eye LinerOn The Go Makeup - eyeshadow brush

The next thing I do in my on the go quick and easy makeup routine is my eyes. If I’m being honest, I literally only do 2 colors, use 2-3brushes, and blend them together. I do a lighter color below my eyebrows to highlight and then a darker color over my eyelid and then use a Mac 217 brush (which everyone needs in their makeup bag no matter how often you do your makeup). The tip and trick here is to blend with the 217 brush AFTER EVERY color you apply. You then blend the bottom color upward into the color above it (regardless of how many colors you have on your eye) and this helps to create a subtle crease.

I will share some of my favorite palettes below as well as the color I use most for these to quickly apply to the eyes. The next thing I do is add a quick line from the center of my eyelid to the outer crease adding a liner. I do the same for the bottom lid and it gives a little more ump to wake up the eye. I always use black liner, but you could easily use any color. One thing I do is always make sure to curl my eyelashes before applying mascara.

If I want to do more than 2 colors, it easily takes 5-10 minutes only for the eyes, but if I’m doing the method above, I can get it done in under 2 minutes with the eyeliner and mascara.

LipsOn The Go Makeup - tarte lip rescue

The very last thing I do for my makeup routine is putting something on my lips. Usually, because I live in the super dry desert, it’s a lip gloss. My favorite lip gloss that also adds moisture is the Tarte Quench Lip Rescue. It comes in nearly 20 colors, including a clear. My two favorite are Rose and Coral. I like that it adds a bit of color to the lip as well as adding hydration to you can feel when your lips are super dry. It has a cooling feel as well as a little tingle.

On The Go Makeup - dior stellar glossIf I want something with a bit more color and sheen, I grab my Dior Addict Stellar Gloss which is a plumping shine and gives 24 hour hydration. This gloss I’ve been using since 2010 and it only keeps getting better with time! The color names and numbers have changed over the years, but now I use 785 which is called Diorama. When I started using this gloss in 2010, the number was 157 and the name was Reflect.

This is the best routine and easiest for me to get out the door, apply in the car, do at home, or in a public bathroom when traveling which makes the biggest impact. It hits all the important areas for me like lip and cheek, and makes me feel confident. And, the last thing you need, if you are like me, are extra things in your bag taking up space. These are the best products to quickly apply and keep in your purse for on the go.

Easy Makeup Removal Product

So this wasn’t part of the on the go makeup routine, but I wanted to include my favorite product and way to easily and quickly remove yourOn The Go Makeup - green clean cleansing balm makeup, either a fully contoured face, or simple on the go makeup. I try to be as clean beauty as possible, and sometimes that happens and sometimes not. This product, however, is a clean beauty product I picked up at Sephora, and love! It’s the Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm from Farmacy.

To use this balm, you grab a small amount from the container rub in your hands to warm, and rub all over your dry makeup filled face. Keep rubbing until it starts to feel slippery on your face. I like to rub over the lips, down the neck, and over my eyes and eye lashes. I use a washcloth with warm water to rinse. This is the easiest and quickest way to remove makeup while also doing good for the environment by not adding more waste to the landfills with wipes.

On The Go Makeup Kit Routine Products

I know I listed some of the products above, but I wanted to make sure you have links, and colors I use. Some of the products I have had for a long time, so the names and numbers may have changed, but the quality of product is still the same.

I gave you all of the links and colors above for everything before the eyes. These photos and descriptions will give you the exact product and how I use them.

For the on the go makeup, I use the top two colors (the lightest ones at the top left, then I use another light to medium color for the lid). This is by far my most used palette of all!
This is a perfect on the go palette because it has all the neutral basics with a bit of shimmer and a mirror to assist in a pinch.
The quickest and easiest sponge to blend and use with your concealer under the eyes or anywhere on the face.
All time favorite liner because my not so steady hands always get a straight line that’s not going to go anywhere, even when I get emotional!
I love using this mascara when I want to add some volume and fullness to my lashes while keeping the rest of my eyes minimal.
When I want to fell more awake and make my eyes appear bigger, this is my go to. It doesn’t clump and instantly makes a big difference.
My ole faithful I’ve had since about 2011 when I barely knew how to curl my eyelashes the right way! This thing is magical and creates a curve like no other.

Subscription Boxes – Are they worth it?

Listen, I know there are probably a bazillion things you get in the mail, on a monthly, quarterly, or even seasonally basis. Heck, I’m sure you’ve probably given one or 50 subscription boxes a try at this point.

I want to share with you the reasons I like them. Also what I do with things that maybe don’t resonate so much with me personally.

So come along for the ride, won’t you?! (Insert Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood theme song, right here…Mama’s you know what I’m talking about)

Subscription Boxes – Are they worth it?

What Are Subscription Boxes

Simply put, subscription boxes are kind-of like monthly magazine subscriptions. But instead of receiving a certain magazine each month, you receive products from brands. It’s a similar business model, but better.

Nowadays, you can find subscription boxes in all shapes and sizes, and in all price ranges. And, there’s one out there for everyone in the family. Subscription boxes can include all types of things. Just to name a few, there are boxes filled with cosmetics, clothes, kid’s games and puzzles, men’s shaving and self-care products, meal kits, pet food and treats, and so on.

Whenever I see something fellow influencers are promoting, I do a little research before diving in and promoting.

Unless, I’ve already been using it and know it works well.

In this case, before I was creating content and recommending things, I was new to treating myself to different things. A creature of habit, I had my tried and true go tos. New skin or hair care products? Forget it. New stores? Not a chance.

I was a very simple person who didn’t venture outside her small box.

Maybe it was due to my childhood and how my body shape and size affected how I saw myself.

But those are both different stories.

Are Subscription Boxes Worth It?

I’m not sure how, but one day, I stumbled upon the FabFitFun box and decided to give it a try. I ordered the seasonal option that was set for winter shipping. It just so happened I received the box right around Christmas. Inside were things I knew I could gift a cousin and sister in law I didn’t really know what to give either.

At the same time, I was getting the Yogi Surprise Box, which was a monthly subscription. Neither one of those people were into yoga, so that box was mostly for me.

Recently, I’ve signed up for the Fabletics membership, which isn’t the same, but it’s a monthly subscription that you get to pick out your outfit for, which works because I don’t need to leave home to get fresh workout clothes.

I’m certain you’ve seen all the subscription services pop up.

Pros And Cons Of Subscription Boxes

Pros

It’s like a surprise each month.

How fun is it to receive a little gift in the mail each month? Honestly, its a great form of self-care!

Allows you to try new and exciting products.

It can be hard to step outside your comfort zone and try new products. But, with monthly shipments of new products, it’s easy to try new things, and maybe even find new favorites.

Gives you something to look forward to.

Even though self-care is SO IMPORTANT, it can be hard to set aside the time. Opening and enjoying the contents of your subscription boxes is like built-in self-care time that you can look forward to.

The products you don’t use make perfect gifts for holidays and birthdays.

You might not always love every single thing you receive in your subscription box. In those cases, you can use the extra products as gifts for those that have similar taste.

Reduces the urge to shop in-between shipments, thus reducing your carbon footprint.

In this consumer based society, it’s tempting to go shopping all the time to keep up with new trends. But, with your subscription box full of trendy new items to look forward to, there is less of an urge to shop in the in-between time. This will not only save you money, but reduce your overall carbon footprint as well.

Cons

Some subscription boxes can get a little pricey.

There are tons of monthly subscription boxes to choose from. If you want to receive really quality items each month, you can expect to pay a pretty penny.

If you don’t love the items you receive, the clutter can pile up quickly.

Receiving new items each month is great…until the clutter starts piling up. Ensure you’ve got the space for all your new items before you start a subscription box.

Some subscription boxes require full up-front payment, with fees for cancellation.

Some subscription boxes businesses allow you to pay month by month, whereas others require up-front payment for longer periods – up to a whole year and beyond. Pay attention to these details when signing up for your subscription service.

Some subscription services make it hard to cancel, so be sure to read the terms and agreements.

Some brands in the subscription box industry have great customer service. Some…not so much. Do a little investigating about customer service and cancellation procedures before committing to a subscription box service.

My favorite part of the boxes is they come as a surprise, kinda like the surprise toys that are all the rage with the kids these days.

How Do Subscription Boxes Work

Most boxes come with full sized products for you to try for a fraction of the membership cost. And probably almost every product in the box individually. I’m sure it’s because the founders have curated great relationships with these companies. With this, many people will see and try their item and it’s well worth it for them to put it in the box. For me, I get to try all of these new products, small businesses, and companies without searching for these products individually.

subscription boxes goodies Are subscription boxes worth it subscription box examples subscription box haul

They come right to me, all at once. In the box comes information about the product and usually a discount code for future use.

If I find I have too many of something, or a product doesn’t resonate with me, I’ve always got a gift or giveaway item on standby. The products never go to waste and someone else is exposed to the product who might become a lifelong lover of the product/company.

handmade leather clutch from ParkerClayAnother favorite thing is I find out about nonprofits who are making a difference in the world, one product at a time. In the Summer Edition of the FabFitFun box, I received a handmade leather clutch from ParkerClay , a Socially Motivated Luxury Lifestyle Brand. They transform communities in Ethiopia through social and economic empowerment. Specifically helping women in Ethiopia who have been removed from the commercial sex industry through rehabilitation, counseling, and skills training.

I don’t know about you, but as a Mother of two girls, this is top of mind when in public. Unfortunately there are people out there who will do anything to make a dollar and rip them away from us.

So finding organizations like this, and knowing my purchase at any time going forward from ParkerClay will make a difference in the world for all females, young and old, helps me remember good still exists.

If it means I discover them when I normally wouldn’t have known they existed, I’m all for it. The quality of products every month are impeccable, not something that was left over and thrown into a box. They are quality that could be sold at a store for a much higher rate.

So, are subscription boxes worth it? It depends on your preferences!

Birchbox or Ipsy

Beauty lovers will love getting monthly boxes of beauty products from companies like Birchbox or Ipsy. These beauty boxes often include sample sizes of different products, so you can try out new things without committing to a full-sized product. Plus, you’ll usually get a coupon to use on a future purchase.

Are Subscription Boxes Worth It?

There are also subscription boxes for kids, pets, and just about anything else you can think of. So if you’re looking for a fun way to try new things or just want to make your life a little easier, subscribing to a box might be the way to go! Join the month club!

So, for these reasons above, I love subscription boxes and will continue to get them. I would encourage you to research one you think could interest you, and check it out for yourself. There is a huge subscription box market. Most boxes allow you to cancel at any time when you decide. I need mention most are customizable to your liking, without removing the element of surprise.

Tell me, do you use subscription boxes, or will you consider using them now?

Best Leggings For Women

Best Leggings For Women

Finding the ideal pair of leggings has become a necessity in recent years. We want to feel comfortable in whatever attire we choose to work in for 8 (or more) hours because the majority of us are still WFH (working from home) due to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Alternatively, we may have a happy hour after work or a virtual get-together with colleagues. And we want to continue wearing the leggings that we’ve been wearing all day long; it’s imperative that we ensure we can transform our casual daytime style into one that will endure all night even if it’s just a virtual hang-out.

Leggings are the one piece of clothing in your closet that can be worn for any occasion. Women reach through them before lectures, dates, movie marathons, work, gym sessions, and everything else. So choosing the ideal pair is crucial. Leggings that are comfy must be elastic, sturdy, durable, trendy, and significantly, comfy. Nonetheless, finding a pair that ticks all the boxes – your must-have pair of leggings, if you will – is challenging.

But, as challenging as it may be to imagine, that isn’t the truth; there can be a pair of leggings out there that will suit your physique and gym requirements. As a result, we’ve put together a list of the top leggings on the market right now. You’re likely to find a good pair of leggings that’s just right for your needs. Whether it’s workout leggings, fashionable leggings, or basic leggings.

As with every post, I have included affiliate links to help support this little blogging passion. Any photo or link you click and make a purchase with lets me continue doing my passion, and I thank you so much!

Best Leggings For Women

1. Athleta High-Waisted Leggings

Leggings from Athleta are made for folks on the go. They have leggings for everyone. From running errands andBest Leggings For Women sports practices to simply relaxing around your home. Furthermore, these leggings are noted for their durability, resulting in a very low cost-per-wear ratio. They carry a variety of high-waisted leggings in sizes ranging from XXS to 3X.

2. Sweaty Betty Power Workout Leggings

Sweaty Betty has been one of my preferred leggings brands. Since they provide so many various styles and colors, as well as printed leggings. They’re also constructed of sweat-wicking and moisture-wicking materials. I’ve had a pair of the Power Workout leggings for several years, and they’re just one of my preferred pairs to wear if I need extra support, such as during a marathon or a high-impact exercise. The different styles and cuts and prints they offer allow you to mix up your leggings and outfits as often as you want with great support! You will be hard pressed to find another pair of leggings as soft and lightweight as these.

3. Old Navy High-Waisted PowerPress Compression LeggingsShop the Best Leggings For Women

In The Navy and Vibrant Plum are 2 of the 4 hues available for these leggings, which vary from subtle to bright. The smooth, elastic waistline is both flattering and comfy. They’re also made to move with you, with 4-way flexibility and sweat-wicking technology.

4. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

Hunting for a dynamic style to wear out for a night out? Spanx leggings are a great option. Their faux leather leggings have a classy vibe to them, so you can style them in a number of ways, and the Jean-ish Ankle Leggings appear just like the real deal. There’s even (fake) suede! When you wear these up, you’ll feel like you’re taking advantage of the system while still getting the support and comfort that only leggings provide. 5. Seasum High Waist Yoga PantsBest Leggings brands

You’ve most likely seen these leggings when you’ve been on the worldwide web lately. The TikTok-famous “butt-lifting” leggings have become the shoppers’ favorite for weeks on Amazon’s list of Best Sellers in Women’s Activewear Leggings. They’re composed of compressive fabric and have a textured, beehive pattern that critics say helps to disguise cellulite. The crumpled seams in the back, which molds your buttocks, is obviously, the distinguishing characteristic. If you prefer leggings that support and hold you in, like I do, these might not be your most favorite because their purpose is to show off your bum instead of hide it. I can tell you every person I’ve seen wear these, raves about them, I haven’t personally tried them to know.

6. Assets by Spanx Seamless Leggings

The company’s more budget sister line, Assets by Spanx, is full of comfy and appealing basics like these seamless leggings. Because of the soft fabric, they’re comfortable to move in and can be worn with everything from the gym to chores. These also come with the company’s distinctive slimming waistband. I do like these for the price, and you can find them at Target. I have found them in more colors as well where the Spanx are typically darker colors, Assets tend to run in more light and dark colors. If you needed another thing to add to your Target cart, or kill a few hours instead of doing something else, these are a great start for dipping your feet into the Spanx line while saving a few dollars for the rest of the things you find. Check them out here

7. Athleta Ultra High Rise Elation 7/8 Tight

Leggings from Athleta are available in 6 different colors, varying from light pink to deep black. The Powervita fabric is described as “buttery soft,” and the 3 waistbands will leave you looking and feeling great no matter wherever you wear them. They have over 560 5-star ratings from customers who love how high-quality the item looks and feels. With so many different colors to choose from, you can’t go wrong with these! Check them out here

8. Ododos High-Waisted Yoga Leggings with PocketsOdodos High-Waisted Yoga Legging with Pockets

Leggings with compartments are always a winner in my eyes. Because of their slim fit and ample pockets, these tummy-control leggings are popular with today’s consumers (which can actually fit an entire Champagne bottle). They have a 4.5-star rating with over 32,600 reviews, and customers say they provide tummy control without getting stifled. I love that these actually stay up and don’t roll when you move around or are working out. These can also be found on Amazon if you are needing a pair of leggings fast and all around the world!

9. Zella Live In High Waist Leggings

These Zella leggings are made of 88% polyester and 12% spandex, which means they’re incredibly moisture-wicking and may be worn as sweat pants for hot yoga or outdoor yoga. I personally find these leggings to be quite a bit warm when trying to wear them in a desert climate except for during December and February when it’s actually cold enough to wear them. Check out all the colors here

10. Spanx Faux Suede Leggings

With its highly popular pair, Spanx placed faux-leather leggings on the market, the brand has introduced a pair ofSpanx Faux Suede Legging faux-suede leggings which are set to be just as successful as their forerunners. They’re as plush as they are flexible and soft, and they’re available in 4 different earth-toned shades that are ideal for fall fashion. I personally love how long and how often you can wear these leggings, the holidays don’t limit these leggings. Wear them anytime! They’re available in tall, standard, and petite sizes varying from XS to 3X.

There you have it, the best leggings for women, and many of which I personally have in my own closet and in heavy rotation each week. I basically live in leggings in the fall right to spring, and even work out in them so I hope my insight has helped you make some decisions on leggings you might have been wondering about. If you have a favorite pair not included in this list, please share in the comments with all of us!

Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

Boho Brand Introduction: Johnny Was

I was first introduced to this high end Boho brand at a blogger crawl here in Scottsdale at their branded store in Kierland Commons.

Johnny Was outletThe second I checked out their IG, I knew I needed more of them in my life! Their color scheme, the Boho vibes, and after visiting their store, the feel of the clothes.

Go ahead and click on the IG and check it out, I will wait…

Johnny Was boho brandJohnny Was boho fashion

Ok, now that we are back. One thing I wasn’t sure about when I first visited their website was the price tag. Chalk it up to my humble upbringing but spending well over $200 for a t shirt or casual dress seemed crazy to me!

The thing I realized was this — I’m not (most likely) going to have an entire wardrobe from Johnny Was without my husband having a heart attack. So more likely it will be capsule pieces that are timeless.

The quality and craftsmanship put into this clothing line makes the price tag not only understandable, but so worth it.

These aren’t what I like to call “throw away clothes.”

Meaning the price is low enough that if it gets stained, washed wrong, shrunk, stretched, ripped, etc. I just toss it and buy something new. — (I know, not environmentally good on my part, I KNOW!)

Johnny Was luxury brandQuality is reflected in the price. The silk is real, the velvet is velvet, not velour. The embroidery work is flawless.

  • Side note — I worked for an embroidery shop that mostly did hats and jackets in my 20s off and on for trade shows, so I know the quality and precision of embroidery work.

In addition to the clothing line, the silk scarves have such vibrant colors and if you’ve never felt real silk just go to either the Johnny Was location or Neiman Marcus to feel them.

AMAZING.

The soap and candle scents are none like I’ve ever smelled. I’m usually not much of a floral scent fan but they have me sooo hooked!

And the coolest part is their soap packages and all their labels match that of the colors of the stores. The soap comes wrapped in a little piece of velvet while the clothing tags have a tassel and embroidery work of the brand’s name.

Attention to detail hasn’t slipped on this brand, they make even the smallest details stand out.

It’s no wonder Johnny Was has been around in the luxury fashion scene and will continue to stay for infinite time! You can find them in Neiman Marcus and a few luxury websites.

I know they are going to be in my closet for a long time coming!

What are your thoughts on this lux brand? What are your thoughts on luxury Boho? I’d love to continue the conversation with you.

Let’s not start the transition into fall.. Let’s talk cover ups!

The start of school signifies the end of summer. And everyone turns their eyes to fall, Pumpkin Spice, sweaters, boots, and football, etc.

Except in Arizona. — expect we still love football in this house too. –>> Saturday’s are Cream and Crimson and Sunday’s are all about Colt’s Nation 🙂

For at least 2 more months in the Valley of the Sun, we expect to see triple digits. And high double digits until at least November. Right now, It’s nearing the end of Monsoon season, and we can almost sleep comfortably at night…almost.

August, most of September, and some of October still lends well to wearing swim suits and playing in the pool. If you have a working pool heater, or a staycation at a local resort, you could don a suit well into the holidays. And then again as early as February!

If we don’t get moving on the new house remodel, we may be hopping in the pool well into December!

Hence, a swim suit, sun glasses, and swim cover up are necessities for everyone here!

Here’s my weekend look for the rest of summer! Use the code AMYJCO for 25% off!

I was so happy to be able to partner with rockflowerpaper designs to help bring awareness to their swimwear line. It made total sense as swimming is a near year round activity here! Along with their swimwear line, they make scarves, totes, women’s clothing, and home accessories. Each piece is inspired by the businesses’ women’s own personal travels around the world. The line began with hand-painted watercolors and prints out of their San Francisco Bay Area studio.

We also try to visit a tropical place with beaches in the winter, so water is always on my mind! Like the post I published about traveling to other places very affordably HERE. You can travel to lots of places without spending all of your savings too! rockflowerpaper has a great, affordable line that won’t break the bank, yet keeps you stylish at home, or on the beaches of the world.

Their line is carried in departments stores as well as online, and with the code AMYJCO , you can save 25% off by clicking HERE.

The piece they sent me is amazing. I love the muted hues and pop of color the tassles give on rockflowerpaper cover upsthe strings around the neck. This piece was genuinely thought over and developed for use on the go, for fashion and function. The fabric is so soft and comfortable that I could wear it for an entire day with ease.

One thing that I personally look for when shopping for swim cover ups is coverage. I want –scratch that, desire good coverage over my suit but also be breathable enough to let air flow through without making me feel like I’m completely naked.

This one is thick enough and fashionable enough to wear to the grocery or somewhere else rockflowerpaper cover upswithout having to worry that people will know it’s really a cover up.
